ELITR
European Live Translator
The EU project ELITR focused on two big areas: (1) simultaneous speech translation, (2) automatic summarization of meetings into minutes.  The project was motivated by the need of the Czech Supreme Audit Office (SAO) to expand the set of language offered to the participants of EUROSAI Congress that SAO was organizing. ELITR developed a system that followed the speaker and human interpretation into multiple languages in real time. Either the original speaker or one of the interpretations served as the source for automatic simultaneous translation from speech into text in 42 additional languages.  We focused on the output quality of speech recognition and translation, and cross-sentence coherence. Furthermore, we worked on automatic summarization of meeting transcripts.
